A TRUCK driver jailed after causing a fatal collision in Lawloit in 2006 was convicted of 39 driving-related offences.
Gregory Allen Abrahams, 34, formerly of Shellharbour, New South Wales, was fined $2000 at Horsham Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.
Abrahams learned of his conviction via videolink from jail, where he was serving a five-year sentence after he was convicted at Horsham County Court in November 2007 of culpable driving causing death and possessing a drug of dependence.
The fatal accident on August 17 2006 killed Mark Pisano, 40, of Melbourne.
The 39 charges related to inaccurate or nil entries in Abrahams' driver log book, driving for longer than allowed, falsification of log book entries after an accident and attaching a device to the truck which allowed it to exceed 100 kilometres an hour.
Police Prosecutor Senior Constable Kevin Taggert told the court Abrahams, an interstate truck driver, was arrested at the scene of the accident.
Sen Const Taggert said Abrahams disconnected the device which allowed the truck to exceed 100 kilometres an hour after the accident.
He said Abrahams had driven from Sydney to Adelaide on August 14 2006 and on August 16 he made phone calls indicating he hadn't slept but at 2pm left Adelaide to travel to Melbourne.
Defence solicitor Julia Flack said Abrahams' was under pressure from his employer to complete unrealistic work targets.
Ms Flack said there was no evidence to suggest Abrahams was driving more than 100 kilometres an hour when the accident occurred.
Magistrate Andrew Capell said the driving offences were a very serious matter and he was obliged to impose a fine.
