Fitter Saints sneak home

FITNESS, strong teamwork and a positive outlook were the keys to Edenhope-Apsley's narrow win against Rupanyup on Saturday.

Saints coach Cara Vanzini said her charges rose to the round 15 challenge after a tough match against Noradjuha-Quantong last weekend.

"We really banded together. The week before we dropped our head but this weekend there was a lot of encouragement on the court," she said.

Vanzini said scores were level at 10-all after the first quarter before the side reached a four-goal lead at the main change.

The Panthers fought to narrow the trail by two goals but it was the Saints who came home to win by five goals.

"It was an extremely close game," Vanzini said.

"Our team made a lot of errors, like stepping, and that's something we will adjust for the rest of the season.

"But Rupanyup fought very hard, their shooters didn't miss and they were very good in defence."

Saints defender Cath McDonald and goal shooter Kelly Jude were effective. Panther Alex Emmett was accurate in the goal circle.

In other matches, Noradjuha- Quantong celebrated coach Rebecca McIntyre's 100th match with a win over Laharum.

McIntyre and Zoe Heard performed in the 35-goal victory. Jess Lovel and Bronwyn Roberts shone for the Mountain Maids.

Harrow-Balmoral were too strong for Pimpinio, recording a 42-goal demolition at Balmoral.

Jess Anson and Anne Brody led the Southern Roos to a strong win. Shari Hinch and Lisa Ward were the Tigers' best.

Ladder leader Kalkee was almost unstoppable as it won against Great Western, ahead of a bye in round 16.

Kees joint coach Kylie Breuer and defender Sharna McKerron were effective while Kayla Davies and Nicole Harding were top contributors for the Lions.

Taylors Lake earned its second win of the season against Swifts.

Lauren Pumpa and Shona Clarke were the Lakers' best while Kaitlyn Ralph and Adele Banwell showed determination for Swifts.

Natimuk had a bye.

This week: Rupanyup v Laharum, Noradjuha-Quantong v Harrow-Balmoral, Pimpinio v Swifts, Taylors Lake v Natimuk, Great Western v Edenhope- Apsley. Kalkee, bye.
