 Kalkee dominates

Kalkee dominates

4/08/2008 12:36:00 PM
KALKEE and Noradjuha- Quantong took undermanned sides into their clash at Kalkee on Saturday.

The Kees won by 73 points but one thing is for sure - they will not take the same sides into the finals.

The Bombers entered the match without forward-line trio Ted Brennan, Aaron Emmerson and Brad Sproule while midfielder Jason Rowe also missed the match.

Bombers coach Simon Dandy said the players had minor injuries and would not use their absence as an excuse.

"Kalkee were the better side on the day," Dandy said.

"After quarter time they lifted and we couldn't keep with them."

The Bombers went into the game with confidence high and led at quarter time but after that Kalkee found its running game and took over the contest.

Kees coach Steve Schultz said he had been pleased by how his forward line lifted in the absence of key forwards Anthony Perkins and Grant Schultz.

"The players who we put into key forward positions were excellent," Schultz said.

Stand-in forward Brian Harrison kicked seven goals, big man Blair Thomas kicked four goals and a hard-working Daniel Smith kicked two goals.

"Harrison was great," Schultz said. "He continues to chase, tackle and pressure the ball. It has been a real focus of ours to keep the ball in our forward line for as long as we can.

"Smith and Brendan Hobbs were also great in similar roles."

Schultz also commended the efforts of midfielders Josh Rentsch and Hamish Exell.

"They just run so hard both ways," Schultz said.

"They were flooding back and also pushing forward.

"To have skilful midfielders like them who also run in straight lines makes a big difference come finals time."

Dandy wants his side to learn from the match and lift their play.

"We should be safe in the finals now," Dandy said.

"Hopefully our guys now know the standard of footy we will need to play next time we face them."

Bombers midfielders Rocket Hogan and Shane Oakley were their club's best players.
