A MONTH-LONG Western Waves cricket pathway northern program for squad members will kick off at the Horsham College junior campus on Wednesday.
Sessions will follow during the next three Wednesdays, with all running between 4.30pm and 6.30pm.
The winter coaching program is completely optional and available to all pathway squad members and players may come to as many sessions as they wish.
Northern program convener and under-18 coach Jason Templeton said he hoped all pathway squad members would attend.
"The sessions give us a chance to work on technical issues now before the season starts," Templeton said.
"It is an excellent opportunity for squad members to give themselves an advantage going into the selection process later in the year, with the focus on these sessions being batting to spin, back-foot shots and some bowling action analysis."
Templeton said the sessions would also provide interested coaches or parents the opportunity to become involved.
"Importantly, the pathway coaches will remain in charge of the sessions but it will be invaluable to have extra sets of eyes, supervisors and ball- throwers," he said.
"They are all the little things that will enable the pathway coaches to spend more time teaching specific skills to those who need it."
He said players were reminded they must contact him by phone at least two days before a session to indicate their attendance because players who just turned up would not be guaranteed time with the coaches.
He said more details were available at www.westernwaves.cricket victoria.com.au or by calling him on 0403 302 172.
Templeton said the session would cost $5 to cover venue hire.
