THE rain brought a downpour of football upsets around the Wimmera on Saturday.
Horsham Saints, Taylors Lake and Kaniva-Leeor all had surprising wins which let their supporters singing in the rain.
Horsham Saints shook off a horrid month of football to put in their best performance of the season to beat the impenetrable Wimmera Football League force Horsham Demons.
It was the first time the Saints had beaten the powerhouse of the league since 2004 and dealt the Demons just their sixth loss since the first of five successive premierships, starting in 2003.
It was not just the win though, it was the fashion in which the Saints won, smashing the Demons in all facets of the game after quarter-time to run away 46-point winners at Coughlin Park, Horsham.
Wimmera league coaches said their teams had drawn enormous confidence from the Saints' herculean effort with the competition now well and truly open.
Horsham could potentially lose top spot with only percentage separating the reigning champs and last year's runners-up Stawell ahead of Saturday's final round.
Meanwhile serial Horsham District Football League and Kowree- Naracoorte-Tatiara Football League cellar dwellers Taylors Lake and Kaniva-Leeor United both posted upset victories.
Taylors Lake dealt an emphatic 89-point loss to Edenhope-Apsley breaking a win drought that had lasted more than a year.
The Lakers were super impressive in their win at Dock Lake Reserve, burning off Edenhope-Apsley with a 13-goal second half.
It is the first and only win for the Lakers in any grade for the season.
Kaniva-Leeor United rounded out a day for the underdogs as it smashed Border Districts by 87 points at Kaniva.
The win was the Cougars' second in almost two years and was made even sweeter by winning at home.
