Hornets' final hurrah

25/07/2008 11:41:00 AM
HORSHAM Hornets will look to end their season on a high when they play Craigieburn Eagles in Horsham in the Big V basketball league tomorrow night.

The Hornets will finish the season on top of the ladder and want to go into the finals on a winning note.

Hornets coach Barry McTaggart said he wanted to use the match to fine-tune the Hornets before the playoffs start next Saturday.

"I am still not 100 per cent convinced on our line-up for the finals," McTaggart said. "I want to make some adjustments to our offence and also try a couple of different defences."

McTaggart said the match would be important because the Hornets had still been adjusting to the loss of point guard Cam Bruce to injury.

"I started Shaun Bruce there on Saturday night and we played very well," McTaggart said. "I went with a taller line- up on Sunday and we didn't play that well.

"We may just have to adjust our line-up according to who we are playing."

Shaun Bruce and Riley McFarlane are both back in the side after spending much of the season with the under 18 Victoria Country team and McTaggart said they had given the Hornets a boost.

"They make us a lot better," McTaggart said. "Shaun is a very smart player and has been involved in the team for a few years so he has fit right back in. Riley will also give us another good player off the bench."

The Hornets will need to be wary of the Eagles 196 centimetre centre Leon Tuala who averages 16 points and eight rebounds a game.

The match tips off at 7.30pm at Horsham basketball stadium.
