NEW Horsham Golf Club PGA professional Richard Alsop has a vision to develop the sport across the Wimmera.
The former Australian PGA tour member said his focus was on building the sport with a particular emphasis on juniors.
"I am hoping to build up the junior programs within the Horsham Golf Club and looking to do coaching, not just in Horsham, but all across the area," Alsop said.
"I have a keen interest in video analysis and junior development."
Alsop said the Wimmera offered a lot of opportunities for young golfers.
"With the facilities at the Horsham Golf Club, they are pretty lucky," he said.
"If you are willing to work extremely hard you can make it, there are a lot of good golfers out there."
Alsop said country life and the opportunity to give something back to the sport he enjoyed so much had lured him to Horsham.
He will work for long-time Horsham professional Mark McIntyre assisting in the Pro- Shop and teaching.
Alsop hails from Hamilton and is happy to return to country life with his young family after spending the past 10 years in Melbourne.
A PGA golf professional for eight years, Alsop said he had a wealth of experience to share with Wimmera golfers.
"I have worked at resort courses, at fully public courses and fully private ones as well," he said.
"I played on the Australian tour for two years which was a fantastic experience and something I had always wanted to do."
Alsop said his tour highlights were winning an event in Queensland and mixing it with Australia's best golfers.
Alsop left the tour after competing in 2005-06 because he wanted to focus on his young family.
He said it was a great experience but he was happy to walk away.
Alsop listed Richard Green as the toughest opponent on a long list of extremely talented golfers.
Alsop said his first impressions of Horsham were positive.
He described the Horsham golf course as `fantastic'.
"I would rate it as good as any country course that I have played on in Australia," he said.
"The condition of the course is fantastic all year round."
Alsop said he had not set the world on fire yet with his Horsham course scores, but would be looking to better that in the near future.
Alsop said he was happy to be in Horsham.
"I am very happy to be in Horsham. I am looking forward to getting to know all the members and play a game with them," he said.
