NHILL duo Elizabeth Lacey and Paula Davis won the Marion Dwyer Trophy in a foursomes competition on Monday.

The competition was the first event of the Victorian Country Golf Championships at Horsham Golf Club this week.

Lacey and Davis dominated proceedings winning the trophy, while also posting the best nett score for the 36 holes and the best nett score in the afternoon 18-hole session.

"The Nhill pair played very well and deserved to scoop the pool," event publicity manager Suzie Ingle said.

The pair won by one point overall with a score of 160, from Moonah Links' Sue Wooster and the National's Biviana Gilson.

Lacey and Davis's 36-hole nett score was 149, while their nett score in the afternoon 18 was 72.5.

The best nett score in the morning session was Yarrawonga and Border pair Judy Langford and Anna Castles who had 73.

The second round of the championship will tee off today, while Glenelg Cup and match play finals will be tomorrow and Friday.
