WIMMERA players have recorded strong results at the Australian Junior Volleyball Championships in Melbourne this week.
Ten Wimmera players are part of various Victorian teams.
Horsham Volleyball Association president David Berry said the standard at the championships had been exceptionally high.
"All of our players have done very well. I think the standard of the teams is much higher this year and our players have more than held their own," he said.
Berry said the under-19 boys team had suffered a `shock' 3-1 loss to Western Australia Gold on Tuesday morning.
Wimmera player Kye Chapple said his team was disappointed with the loss.
"We should have won. We won the first set and then we just couldn't block. A win would have made our chances of making the last six much easier, now we will just have to see how we go," he said.
Berry said the under-19 boys had two wins and one loss with six matches remaining.
He said the under-19 girls team had lost their first two matches but had pushed top teams.
"They have drawn all the top teams at the start of their draw and I would expect their results to improve as the week goes on," he said.
He said the under-17 boys produced an upset on Monday night defeating New South Wales Sky 3-2.
"They came back from two sets down to beat NSW's top team, NSW Sky. That was a massive result for them and it has opened up the tournament," he said.
Berry said the team had two wins from two matches with four matches left in the tournament.
He said the under-17 girls team had enjoyed strong results with one win and one loss.
"The girls have been unlucky in the past few years and could only beat teams like Tasmania. This year they beat WA Gold in their first match and lost a tough match to Victoria Blue. So they could be pushing to finish ninth or 10th overall which would be a great achievement," he said.
The championships finish on Saturday.
